This series by Dr. Clarence Sexton brings the believer face to face with their response to God. God is always previous. The stewardship of life is our response to God.
Excerpt from chapter 3:
“The decisions we make in the
days we live are more important
than the days we live.”
Death is walking beside us. At any moment death could call. I read an interesting story about John Wesley, the Methodist evangelist who was used mightily of God in the eighteenth century. In the conquest of Britain for God, a revival came to the land. On one occasion, Mr. Wesley was asked to come to a wealthy man’s estate. They spent the largest part of the day on horseback going over all the wealthy man’s estate. When they finished their horseback riding and had seen so much of the estate, the wealthy land owner looked at Mr. Wesley, the humble Methodist preacher, and said, “Well, what do you think?”
John Wesley turned to the man and said, “I think you are going to have a very hard time leaving all of this, and you are going to leave all of it.” Beloved, let us keep eternity’s values in view.
Where have all the people gone that we have known and loved who have left this earth? They are somewhere. Where are they? Have you lost someone you loved through the door of death? Where are they? If they knew the Lord Jesus as their Saviour, they are with Him.
If you can trust God with them, then why is it we have such a hard time trusting God with everything else? If we can trust God with the destiny of our soul, if we say we have asked God to forgive our sins and by faith we are trusting the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, then our last breath here will be our first breath in the presence of the Lord Jesus.
“Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath” (Psalm 90:11). Here is God’s purpose. God says, “Teach us to number our days.” Life is lived by days. We do not have a day to waste. We are given the responsibility of the stewardship of time.
